Course overview - IEG

These ESOL courses are for young people aged 16-18 who live in the UK permanently, or who have asylum seeker / refugee status, and who want to improve their English by having face to face teaching and learning in college.

You will be able to meet and study with other people from other countries, share experiences and learn together, over a full academic year. Courses are available at Entry Levels - Level 2, including Pre-Entry, during the day.

Entry requirements - IEG

You will have an interview to check your level and/or show any English language qualifications you already have, before you start.

Course contents - IEG

The course covers a wide range of General English topics, from personal and social development, to employment, the environment and culture.

Depending on your course, you will also have exam preparation lessons to practise listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

Grammar and vocabulary are developed in all lessons. As well as improving your English, you will also study towards a maths qualification and will also be able to learn important life skills to prepare you for work or further study and that will help you as you settle in to life in the UK.

Assessment - IEG

You will take a test before starting, to check your language level, and then at regular times in the course to show progress. At the end of the course you will take a nationally recognised exam.

Additional costs - IEG

You may need to buy a course book, but the college will give you more information once you apply.

Progression - IEG

Each course offers the opportunity to progress to the next level. It may also be possible to progress on to mainstream college courses, once your English is at the right level.
